1) What does it mean that the Lord “stirred the spirit of “Cyrus” or “charged” him (Ezra 1:1&2)?
2) What do you suppose were the motivations of the king: Godly or self-promoting (Ezra 7:23)?
3) How do you suppose God stirred the spirits of folks (Ezra 1:5)? Do you suppose that only some people were stirred, or that they all were and only some were obedient? Share a time when the Lord stirred your spirit.
4) Why could only Jews in good standing help (2:59, 62, 4:3)? Why could anyone stirred by God help (1:1, 5, 6, 6:9, 7:26)? How do we balance inclusion and purity today?
