“As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.” (1 John 2:27) His Holy Spirit that is given to us when we are born again is given to teach us, to be our guide, our helper. “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.” (John 16:13) However; in order for this to occur we must abide in Him. The Greek term ménō is translated abide means to dwell, remain or continue.
In the gospel of John, Jesus tells us how vitally important it is for believer/disciples to abide in Him. “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. “My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. (John 15:4-8)
If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him. (1 John 2:29) Abiding in Him is to only way we can practice righteousness.
