~ Isaiah 40

  1. What comes to mind when you hear “comfort” not once but twice in 40:1?
  2. What is the difference between natural consequences of sin and the Lord’s discipline (v.2, Heb. 12:6)?
  3. What is the difference between man and his word and the word of God (v.8)?
  4. How is verse 10 both good news and bad news?  For whom?
  5. What atmosphere is established with v.1 & v.11 (see also Ps. 23, 95:7)?  How have you experienced The Lord like v.11?
  6. How does knowing that your comforting shepherd also created everything (v.12, 26, 28), knows everything (v.13-14), is over the nations (v.15-17, 23), and keeps everything ordered, (v.26) build our trust in him?
  7. Even though we know verses 18 & 25 what are you tempted to compare God to or trust in?
  8. Does verse 27 ever describe you?
  9. Are you waiting on the Lord or pushing ahead in your own strength (v. 31)?
